Here's the perfect dark horror for a creepy Sunday afternoon listen: The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker!
The Hellbound Heart was written in the early 80's during Barker's Books of Blood-Damnation Game period, the latter of which was nominated for England's Booker Prize. It inspired the film, Hellraiser, which Barker also wrote and directed.
Available from Audible, The Hellbound Heart is read by the author. Although this edition is abridged, the unabridged version is not narrated by Barker. Clive's Liverpudlian accent and background in theater really help to elevate the lyrical quality of his already beautiful, dark prose. Upon hearing it read aloud, I was struck by the timeless quality the novel possesses. It's a joy to listen to!
